Youth Voice in Governance

Youth Voice in Governance is a participatory project that empowers young people to understand, engage with, and influence decision-making processes at the local level. The program educates youth about Nepal’s federal structure, budgeting processes, policy formulation, and civic rights. It encourages active citizenship by facilitating youth-led social audits, municipal consultations, and budget analysis workshops.

Youth participants form civic action groups that identify local governance issues—such as infrastructure gaps, service delivery failures, or lack of youth representation—and present evidence-based recommendations to local authorities. Regular policy dialogues are organized to create space for youth perspectives in governance. Through the project, young leaders also learn public speaking, negotiation, and leadership skills.

Implemented in collaboration with local governments and civil society organizations, the project has been instrumental in increasing youth participation in ward committees, public hearings, and policy discussions. It has created a generation of informed and accountable youth advocates who are not only watchdogs but also co-creators of local solutions.
